Nashville Star - we have a "winner"

I thought Melissa should win. She by far had the best voice. It reminds me of Martina McBride. I think Gabe definitely has his place in country music but he's still lacking some carisma, IMO.

Ewww...I don't think Melissa ranks with Martina at all. She had some very good performances but sometimes she was all over the place (same with Shawn). I've been following country music for a very, very long time and although I was never a HUGE George Strait fan I am a HUGE Kenny Chesney fan. I think Gabe has that kind of shy, reserved persona like George but his voice has that clear, rich tone like Kenny's. Plus I just think it's cool to hear a hispanic singing country, plus, hey, he's kinda cute and sexy! His performance of Must Be Doing Something Right was oozing with sexiness and honesty too! I just know that the industry is tough and the competition is tougher and I cannot think of ONE successful female country artist that is not skinny and cute. Most of them have kids, some of them have MANY kids but they still manage to stay skinny. I think Melissa will have a tough go at it but I wish her all the luck. She just reminds me of Winonah Judd and I'm not a big fan. Thanks for the feedback though!

Her look is comparable to Wynonna (whom I don't care for either) but I like her voice more. A hispanic country star would definitely be neat and I think Gabe will still make it.

I've never understood the big hype of Kenny Chesney. We saw him in concert but I thought his opening act, Gretchen Wilson, was far better than him. Most of his songs all sound the same.

I LOVE Kenny, he is one of my all-time favorite artists across all music genres. Most artists have a sound and style that is uniquely their own and he definitely does along with guys like Alan Jackson, George Strait, Tim McGraw and other biggies. I don't think that's a bad thing. When I hear Kenny Chesney I always know it's him. Country radio burned everybody out on Gretchen Wilson by overplaying Redneck Woman. Don't get me wrong I like her, but her second album didn't do nearly as well as her first. I think Kenny has a much broader appeal and his songs are heartfelt and about real situations that people can relate to. There Goes My Life (my second favorite), The Good Stuff, You Had me From Hello (which he wrote after seeing Renee Zelweiger in Jerry McGuire who he later married and then she broke his heart), Don't Blink, Young, I Lost It, I Go Back, No Shoes, No Shirt, No Problem and my favorite She Thinks my Tractor's Sexy! There's PLENTY of variety in these songs!

Here's a link to some of them on You Tube. Check them out if you get a chance. Maybe he was just having an off night when you saw him. I have STMTS on a CD in my car and whenever I wanna get cranked up I pop it in!

Gretchen's sophomore album was definitely a disappointment.
